About Matt

Why DirectorMatt21?

Well, my name is Matt and that’s why Matt is in there. But, why director?!? I had Windows Movie Maker and I would put video game clips from sites and make tribute videos. The editing really interested me. February 12, 2007 I got an Aiptek Camera. I started to capture short films and then take the SD card and input it into my Computer. I would then edit it. Later on, I learned from past videos and got even more interested. I started a new YouTube account called Directormatt21 on August 26, 2007. I still didn’t feel worthy of my homemade videos so on that account it started with Tributes. On November 7, 2007 I added my first video showing my actual face. It was a 42 second video but it loaded in subscribers.  The next three videos actually had me in it.

Then, I had some random videos, then I started to do “How To”. Then on Thanksgiving of 2007 I added another video including me. My first short film to be put up onto YouTube was a remake of no12354 really weird film called “The Fort”, added on November 25, 2007. This starred Thomas and Cameron, my brothers. This was my first and so far only video I edited on my Mac. Then on December 2, 2007 “Ghost Hunters Episode One” came on to YouTube. It yet again starred my brothers, Thomas and Cameron, and me when I was sick.

Then I added another short film called WHY ARE THESE CLIPS BLACK, and that’s because the first minute or so it was black. This was added December 8, 2007. It starred my brothers, my brother’s friends, John, and Thomas.

On December 23, 2007 I added a funny spoof of me making Microwavable Popcorn. It piled in some views. On Christmas morning I got something of my dreams, you know something you never thought you would get. I didn’t have it on my list. That led to the fact that I was absolutely shocked. I got a Panasonic PVGS39, with 30x optical zoom, 1000x digital zoom, and it was so small, but such great end results. I was astonished.

My first actual short film and full use of the camera was a film called “Godfather “. This was added the first day of 2008. It was one of my most successful videos ever. It starred my brothers Thomas, Cameron, my friend Lee, and my brother’s friend Thomas. When I get older, I hope to be the next Steven Spielberg, and maybe even add my own movies. The reason for the 21 is it’s my luckiest number.

More and more and MORE!

When was is established?

Well Matt Philie started his first YouTube account ( djmatt21 ) on November 16, 2006. He was just a beginner but he had a passion for film making and then created the account Directormatt21 on August 26,2007 and started to pull in loads of subscribers.

Main Actors used.

Well Matt has three brothers. Glenn, Thomas and Cameron. Thomas is the closest in age to Matthew which means they hang out a lot. He is the star of practically all the films. He was the main actor in Matt’s first production film entitled ” French Army ” which went on for three films and a film called Before French Army. Next his younger brother was eager to join the film making group with his older brothers and joined for the rest of the films. Every so often a friend of Thomas’s, ” John Randazzo ” stops by and joins a film. Then he became a main actor. Another actor not a main one though is Matthew’s friend Lee Tavella.

Matt’s equipment!

People always ask me these questions.

  • What type of Camera do I use?
  • What type of program do I use?
  • Where do I get my audio?
  • Where do I get my effects?
  • Do I have more then one program?
  • How long does filming take?
  • How long does screen writing take?
  • How long does editing take?

Answer to number one. I have had a view selections of cameras throughout my films.

My first camera was obtained on my eleventh birthday ( February 12, 2007 ). It was a Aiptek Camera.

When I used this I had **–no–** tripod

For one film I then used a camera from early 2000 late 90’s.

**No Picture Available** - I used it for The Fort Remake.

Then on Christmas of 07 I received a Panasonic PVGS39,

This has 30 Optical Zoom and 1000x Digital Zoom. The quality is outstanding  and by far the best.

The camera itself weighing a low 1 lb. It is so small it fits in your palm.

The next asked question is what Editing Program do I use?

Well I have been using Windows Movie Maker for a long span of time.

This was the most basic editing program, yet it has some outstanding features, and its the best free program out there.

For one film, The Fort Remake, I used iMovie HD

A free yet outstanding program.

and as of now I currently use ” Ulead Video Studio Version 11 Plus “

Its easy but has so many addons. Including Overlay, Dolby surround sound. etc.

I also DISCOVERED I have a very very high costing price entitled Final Cut Pro HD. I found it on my Mac.

Next question. I have received my audio, and when I say audio I mean music. I have gotten it from my Dad’s CD Collection.

AND I have used hyper cam recording sound, also YouTube to flv, then flv to mp3. How to, and another How To.

Next, I get my effects from my program as seen above Ulead Video Studio Version 11 Plus.

The next question is yes, if you scroll up you can see my other programs

Next. Filming is not very long. We might take time on scenes but we have never taken more then ONE day.

Next. Screenwriting has a secret for Matt Philie’s films. NOT ALL of his films have scripts. Two thirds do NOT have scripts

but it usually takes about a day and another half of a day to edit.

Next. Editing is never to long. Yet again it’s done before the day is over. Matt trys his best with editing but he doesn’t rush or delay.
